Watercolor on paper/ 30x40/2015
Next step of my watercolor expirements. Hope it's only begining)
I remember those youthful days, in the haze of substance abuse, when one would take a heavy dose with a newly found "soul mate". Something about them shredded one with excitement, and the chance to share an experience of heightened/blunted proportions was something eagerly anticipated. I also remember, and am quite taken back to these moments, when it kind of failed. The two minds, sealed off from their usual conscious finish-each-others-sentences, just cannot get on the same wavelength. One drifts off, far and away, to a place you cannot reach, while the other fervently tries to "see over their shoulder" and join them. The implications of this disconnect drive a mental wedge even when it passes, informing us in our uniqueness but also, in that, the loneliness of our own originality. The almost perfectly opposing expressions of the two subjects in this piece illustrate such dissonance. And yet, such is the amazing quality and one of many dualistic properties of this piece, I can see the two subjects back -to-back, peacefully cycling along a country road or cityscape. A motorcycle speeding through the night, dividing each subject by it's loudness, showing the split in their outward views and inward feelings...One can construct so many stories for these two; but I feel it really shows that distance that appears when we feel, or want to, closest to someone we love, and realize that it just won't align for us. Beautiful, tragic, and exciting!

As always, your work is fantastic. I love how both the subjects look like they're in their own worlds
